Learning Aims
To understand 'download times' and to know the difference between a vector image and a bitmap image.
Introduction
When you open a website the time it takes to load depends on the images, animation and sound on it - the content. It takes longer with a dial -up connection than broadband.
Main
Activity 1
Go onto Google/Images and do a search for a picture that you would like to go on your eportfolio main page. The image size should be 300 pixels or more wide. See here to find out how to know the size. Save the image on your J:/ drive in 'My Pictures'
Activity 2
Go to Start/Programs/macromedia/FireworksMX 2004 and open the program. It takes a few minutes to open.
File/Open ( or ctrl+O) and open the picture you saved in 'My Pictures' |
Go to 'Modify/Canvas/Image size and reduce the width to 300. the hight will change automatically to maintain proportion.
Now do 'File/Save as' and save it in 'Public_html/Images.
In Dreamweaver add the picture to your eportfolio main page.
Test the page with f12 Extension
If you have time or out of school add more images, but make sure they are 300 pixels or less.
Plenary
Why have we limited the size of the images? Have we been working with vectors or bitmaps?
