Lesson 1

Starter

We are going to create a Public Information System to help a seaside town persuade more holiday makers to go there. To begin with we need to think about what sort of information is needed, where it comes from and how to use it.

Activity 1

How is the information gathered?. Look at link 1 on the right. Which equipment is best? The school has a remote weather station on the roof that records data and sends it to a computer. We are going to add this to the Intranet and share it with other schools around the world as well as use it ourselves to study local weather.

Activity 2

Look at links 2 - 4 they are all giving approximately the same information. Which is preferable and why?

Activity 3

Different people need different information delivered in different ways. Open link 5 - Weather Data. Here are a group of people who need information about the weather, but they all need different information. Fill in the page working in pairs. Save it in the ICT folder inICT/year 8/infopoint. If you have not got the folder, create it.

XT

If you have done all of the activities, on the Internet find the weather station in Death valley, Utah and any weather cams there as well.
